The housing here
Nottinghamshire runs from the dense Victorian terraces and listed villas of Nottingham, through the coalfield towns of Mansfield, Hucknall and Worksop with their terraces and post-war estates, to the protected Georgian centres of Newark and Retford and the rural properties of the Dukeries and the Trent valley.
The water here is hard — limestone country. Scale is the main thing that kills a combi's plate heat exchanger, and an in-line scale reducer at seventy-five pounds is the cheapest insurance you can buy on a boiler you want to keep for fifteen years.
What that means for your boiler

Bigger radiator circuits and more often two bathrooms, which is where combi sizing starts to matter. If both bathrooms genuinely get used at once, our quote will point you at a system boiler and a cylinder rather than sell you a large combi that will still disappoint you.
A boiler replacement does not normally need listed building consent, but a new flue penetration on a principal elevation can. We route flues to the least visible face as a matter of course, and if the only viable route is a front elevation we will say so before you order rather than after.
Usually a combi already, usually a short flue, and usually the simplest job on our list. The thing to watch is whether the flue terminates over a walkway or communal area, which is one of the questions we ask before pricing rather than after.
Former pit housing was built with solid fuel in mind and converted to gas in waves through the seventies and eighties. That means back boilers, gravity-fed cylinders and gas runs sized for a different era. If your gas pipe from the meter is 15mm, upgrading it to 22mm is included in our price — it is one of the most common surprise charges in this trade and we have simply built it in.
Mains gas is the first thing to confirm. After that these are usually straightforward jobs with good access, and we cover them on the same next-day basis as the towns.
