Almost always a loft tank and a cylinder, and almost always a good candidate for conversion. The long horizontal pipe runs mean it is worth checking the flow rate honestly before committing to a combi — our questionnaire asks about radiators for exactly this reason.
Typically a builder-grade combi around ten to fifteen years old, on an outside kitchen or utility wall. The swap itself is easy. The thing worth spending money on here is the boiler rather than the labour — you are replacing a cheap one, and it is worth not replacing it with another.
Two practical consequences. Exposed plots mean flue terminals catch the wind, so terminal position matters more than usual. And the water here is genuinely hard, which shortens the life of a combi's plate heat exchanger — a scale reducer is seventy-five pounds and we suggest it in the quote.
Salt-laden air is hard on flue terminals and external pipework. We use stainless fixings as standard here and it does not cost you extra.
